Birge Essay Contest on Optimization under Risk (Becor)

On May 28, 2011, RiskLab announced a sub-project affiliated to the newly announced Essay Contest in decision engineering under Risk (see http://risklab.utoronto.ca/news/elsevier) project: Birge Essay Contest on Optimization under Risk (Becor).
The main aims of the Becor Award are twofold: first, to stimulate intellectual debate among young researchers and scientists under 35, in order to contribute to the development of risk-based decision engineering methodologies, and promote best risk management practices; second, in recognition of Professor John R. Birge’s pioneering work and contributions to the theory of optimization under risk and uncertainty.
This is the only global essay contest and award that recognizes outstanding theoretical research from young scientists aged below 35 in the theory of optimization under risk and uncertainty. Nominated work must make substantial contributions to the corresponding area.
Becor welcomes both theoretical and empirical research papers from young scientists within the risk field from the areas of financial engineering, industrial engineering and decision sciences and engineering, as well as articles related to decision making, regulation and policy issues in all disciplines. Submitted papers must be in English and follow the format of the journal Systems Engineering Procedia (click here ) .
Appropriate candidate papers from this contest will be published in an Elsevier electronic journal – Systems Engineering Procedia. Winners will be nominated by a committee and selected and awarded by Professor John R. Birge with certificates from the organizer, in the name of both Elsevier and RiskLab. Winners’ names will appear on Elsevier and RiskLab’s official websites and newsletters. Selected papers will be invited to submit an extension work to SSCI/SCI indexed Elsevier journals*.
The submission deadline of the first contest will be December 30 2011. All interested scholars and researchers are welcome to participate.
